U.S. Evicted From Air Base In Uzbekistan

The Washington Post and New York Times have just reported Uzbekistan formally evicted the United States yesterday from Karshi-Khanabad air base, known as K2, a military base that has served as a hub for combat and humanitarian missions to Afghanistan since shortly after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The United States has paid $15 million to Uzbek authorities for use of the airfield since 2001 Pentagon and State Department officials said yesterday.

The notice of eviction, was delivered by a courier from the Uzbek Foreign Ministry to the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent said an Embassy official. No reason was given and Uzbekistan will give the United States 180 days to move aircraft, personnel and equipment, U.S. officials said.

"We always think ahead. We'll be fine," Rumsfeld said last Sunday when asked how the United States would cope with losing the base in Uzbekistan.

Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman in May said access to the K2 airfield "undeniably critical in supporting our combat operations" and humanitarian deliveries. The United States has paid $15 million to Uzbek authorities for use of the airfield since 2001, he said.

Pentagon spokesman Lawrence T. Di Rita said that the U.S. military does not depend on any single airbase in any part of the world. "We'll be able to conduct our operations as we need to, regardless of how this turns out. It's a diplomatic issue at the moment,"

The eviction notice came four days before Undersecretary of State R. Nicholas Burns was due to arrive in Tashkent for talks with the government of President Islam Karimov principly to discuss issues arising from the wholesale slaughter of civilians in cold blood by State Police and troops during the bloody protests in the province of Andijan in May. Burns was said to be threatening (in the politest possible way) that unless Karomiv opened up politically – he risked the kind of upheavals witnessed recently in Ukraine, Georgia and Kyrgyzstan. The trip he planned with 3 Senators has been called off.

Karimov has refused an international probe into the bloody massacre at Andijan. As U.S. pressure has mounted, he cut off U.S. night flights and some cargo flights, forcing Washington to move search-and-rescue operations and some cargo flights to Bagram air base in Afghanistan and Manas air base in Kyrgyzstan and also Incirlik in Turkey where permission for more flights were granted in early June. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was making herself busy on the phone on Thursday and Friday with Kyrgyz leaders to arrange for the flight out of 450 Uzbek refugeesfrom Kyrgistan. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees airlifted them to Romania on Friday. She had been busy earlier in the week with Burns stitching up a deal Congress to change a 1978 law barring U.S. nuclear energy aid to nuclear-weapons states, as well as an accord of a coalition of countries known as the Nuclear Suppliers Group including European countries that India can buy supplies for civil nuclear power without surrendering to International inspection of their military reactors. This deal ditches 40 years of Anti Proliferation control but opens up the lucrative and prosperous Indian Civil nuclear energy market to all.

Royston and Buntingford Mercury 29 July 2005Muktar Saed Ibrahim, also known as Muktar Mohammed Saed, 27, was named by police in connection with the attempted attack on the No 26 bus in Hackney, East London, last Thursday.

In 1996 he was jailed for a series of street robberies (he was then 18), including one in Melbourn Street, Luton in May 1995 (Melbourn is a village outside Royston), and may also have been involved in incidents in Stevenage, Letchworth and Welwyn Garden City.

The Mercury learnt that the alleged would-be bomber was part of a gang who appeared at Luton Crown Court in February 1996 and pleaded guilty to several charges.

It is believed that when Ibrahim appeared in court with two of his accomplices he had already received a three-year prison sentence from a court in north London for similar offences.
At Luton, he pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted robbery, one charge of robbery and another count of handling stolen goods.

He got one year, two years and another two years respectively to run concurrently, but in addition to the previous sentence.

Jermayne Lindsay died in the worst of the suicide attacks -- a subway bomb that killed at least 26 people between King's Cross and Russell Square stations. Former schoolfriends of Lindsay, who grew up in Rawthorpe, Huddersfield, said that he visited Afghanistan four years ago and returned to Britain as a hardline Muslim. The police are known to have been looking losely at Lindsay’s connections in the Luton area.

Abdullah Shaheed Jamal when he converted to Islam at the same time as his mother when he was sixteen, it is said he may have may have been the most senior of the four bombers.There are reports (unconfirmed) that Lindsay / Jamal was tracked by federal authorities to the United States in 2000. His mother had been living in Cleveland, Ohio, in the late 1990s.For the last six months he was living with his partner in a small rented semi-detached house in Aylesbury. Jermaine Lindsay's partner Samantha Lewthwaite, 22, mother of his one-year-old son, is expecting her second baby very soon.

It is known that the three other bombers travelled from West Yorkshire to London via Luton in a hire car. After they detonated their devices to deadly effect, further bombs were found at Luton station in Jamal's red Fiat car.

One officer said that Lindsay appeared to have links with criminal activity in the town.

Luton has also been a hotbed of radical Islamist activity for several years, with extremist groups such as al-Muhajiroun having an influence over young Muslims there.

Last year several arrests were made in Luton in connection with another anti-terrorist operation in August 2004 when 13 arrests were made across the country. Details cannot be reported because it is the subject of a forthcoming criminal trial.

Lindsays bank became suspicious before the 7/7 attacks and hired a private firm to examine his finances, said detective Noel Hogan, managing director of Hogan and Co. Intl. Hogan said one of the purchases he examined was a large amount of perfume (said to be £900). He said the company contacted police once Lindsay's name was publicly linked to the attacks.

The government has introduced, from 1st August an exclusion order for the area around Parliament under the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005 This zone prohibits demonstrations, even one-person demonstrations, unless the police expressly permit them. Failure to comply can lead to arrest. The zone covers a very wide area around Parliament as far as the London Eye, Charing Cross embankment and up to (although not including) Trafalgar Square.

The new zone is ostensibly to deal with th protest since June 2001, of anti war protester Brian Haw who is camped in Parliament Square. That in itself is a denial of his right to protest and should be opposed. But the exclusion order’s range will prohibit a large number of other protests outside Parliament, Downing St and government buildings.

Note - Guradian - Westminster war protester wins right to stay: The court ruled that legislation being brought in to control demonstrations around the Houses of Parliament did not apply to 56-year-old Mr Haw. The new rules state that, from August 1, anyone wanting to demonstrate in the area must have authorisation from the police "when the demonstration starts". Lawyers for Mr Haw pointed out that his demonstration had actually "started" four years ago and therefore he did not have to apply for authorisation.

Herbal Stimulant Use Increases in the U.K.

May 7, 2001: Qat (Catha edulis) is a perennial shrub traditionally cultivated in Ethiopia, The Yemen and Kenya, where it is an important cash crop.

The fresh leaves, when chewed, release a complex of alkaloids, which are known as pseudoephedrines because they have effects resembling those of the stimulant ephedrine (adrenalin). Two main constituents have been isolated, canthin and canthinone, both of which have a molecular structure similar to that of amphetamine.

Ethiopians and Somalis living in the UK can buy qat leaves in various parts of London and Manchester for about £4 (US$6) per bunch. Use of qat is often a social affair, traditionally restricted to single sex groups. It is now common for mixed groups to partake, although this is frowned on by elders in the Somali community who believe that it may lead to lewd behavior.

Is it legal to buy, sell and own qat?
The UK Government issued a report in 1998 examining the use of qat by members of Britain's immigrant Somali and Ethiopian communities (Griffiths, 1998). Use of qat in Britain was not banned following this report, although it is banned in the US, Canada, Norway and Sweden, where it is sold illicitly.

It is said that over 7 tons of qat pass through Heathrow airport each week,(this was 2001 when I reserached this) mainly from Kenya, and is on sale in London within 24 hours of harvesting.

Cathin and cathinone are controlled drugs and covered by the UK Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. So in the UK the use of qat is an anomaly. Participants do not think it should be illegal and research suggests that chewing leaves for about 3 hours has about half the effect of medically administered amphetamines.

History
Recorded since the 13th Century in Arabian writings, it has been used in the way that coca leaves have been used by working people in Latin America to aid them in manual work. It is especially popular in Muslim nations where alcohol is forbidden.

Risks
About 6% of the UK's Ethiopian and Somali immigrant community members use qat daily and have a dependent habit. Griffiths (1998) found that 85% of 207 respondents reported tiredness, depression and difficulty sleeping after using qat. A study by Krikorian (1983) found qat use associated with dental and oral problems, gastro-intestinal disturbances, increased risk of liver disease, cardiovascular effects and complications in pregnancy and childbirth. Anecdotal evidence suggests that qat causes consitipation. Thus, it is said that when qat-use in Aden was banned by British military authorities during the 1950's there was a huge reduction in over the counter sales of laxatives.

Mike Gapes (Ilford, South) (Lab/Co-op): I draw attention to this issue because of constituency reasons. Eight weeks ago, I was on a tube train on the Jubilee line in central London in the middle of a weekday afternoon when three young men who were probably 14, 15 or 16 years old got on to the train, carrying between them a large plastic bag containing stalks with leaves. They proceeded to spend the whole journey picking the leaves and chewing them. It was the first time that I had ever seen that on a tube train, and I wondered what the significance of it was. The three young men were clearly intoxicated and in their own world, taking part in something that was important to them.

The young men were Somali. During the recent election campaign, I had lots of discussions with members of my local Somali community. After that, I thought that it was important to raise this issue as early as possible in this Parliament. People in my Somali community in Ilford tell me that the consumption of khat—there are at least 40 different words for the substance in different languages—is a growing social and community problem. It is not just a problem for the Somali community, because it is not only Somalis who are chewing the leaves of this shrub. It is a wider problem, which could become serious unless the Government take some action to deal with it.

A newspaper in Milton Keynes reported on 3 February that people from Milton Keynes had been arrested in the United States. It said:

"Travellers from Milton Keynes have been turned back at US airports after trying to smuggle in the drug qat . . .
.....It is understood armed American customs officers caught at least five "mules"—recruited in Milton Keynes—with the leafy narcotic in their luggage during the last 12 months."

Sir Ian Blair seizes sword from terrorists unarmed and alone

Yahoo ran a wonderful story last week “London Police Chief Reaches Out to Muslims”
Sir Ian Blair appealed to Muslims to join the police but then went on to explain somewhat paradoxically "It is not the police, it is not the intelligence services who will defeat terrorism, it is communities who will defeat terrorism." Metropolitan Police Commission Ian Blair told a gathering at the Minhaj-ul-Quran Mosque.

"We've got nearly a million Muslims in London ... I've only got 300 Muslim police officers in London. I'm afraid that's not good enough.”

"I need your mothers and your fathers, your brothers and your sisters, your sons and your daughters."

Blair urged the Muslim community to change its attitude toward radical clerics such as Abu Hamza al-Masri, who is in prison awaiting trial for allegedly encouraging the murder of Jews and other non-Muslims, and Syrian-born Sheikh Omar Bakri Mohammad, spiritual leader of the radical Muslim movement Al-Muhajiroun.

"You're going to have move away from the very understandable position that lunatics like Bakri and Hamza are just lunatics and they're not important," Blair said.

“We have to find ways in which we identify the young men and sometimes women who are vulnerable to extremism. That is a great challenge."

Blair said there was "nothing wrong with being a fundamentalist Muslim," or a fundamentalist of another faith.

"The key issue is the slide into extremism," he said…. Which to many listening probably includes calling people who represent dissenting voices, .. er .. “lunatics”. Of course it may require a lawyer to explain why the Chief of the Metropolitan Police finds it necessary to describe the defendent in a current court case a "lunatic" or if it might be considered to be seen as prejudicial to the defendents case.

Curiously this story was illustrated with picture of Sir Ian visiting the Sikh community at Gurdwara Dasmesh Darbar on the same day.

I have just watched the BBC 1 debate on terror, fronted by Huw Edwards with Sir Ian Blair, David Davis etc., Janet ( I am the Voice of Unreason and I smoke about 300 cigarettes a week) Daly, the token woman (?) the token American.

We are told that the decision to execute Menezes was a "split nano second decision" - this by legendary mastermind polymath and all round rentagob Daly !

Bollocks Mi Lord ! (Lord Falconer ex flatmate and for all I know bed mate and soul mate of Tony "Dear Leader" Blair and now Lord Hi Pooh Ba etc., ) is of the panel.

It took a team of at least 20 (and probably many more) "highly trained Police / secret service / SAS (?), Israeli Advisors etc 29 minutes to watch the victim's journey. The decision that he was wearing explosive material was made long before the Plain Clothes officers chased him into and through the station, down the escalator and onto the train (which had been kept waiting by the driver with open doors on instruction) and they held him down and shot him eight times in the back of his head.

... Furthermore these "highly trained officers" then chased the poor fucking , driver , no doubt frightened shitless, up the rail tunnel, held him against the wall with a gun (presumably loaded and cocked to fire) to his head.

Four hours later Sir Ian Blair, who sat there on the panel, so quietly cocky and confident, was the same imbecile who 4 hours after the STockwell public execution declared that Menezes (Who hadn't been publicly identified by then - presumably not helped by the 7 exit wounds on the front of what remained of his head) was "connected with the bombing", which he subsequently Jesuitically claimed, (when it became apparent what a complete fuck-up the whole event was) meant he was "involved in the search for the bombers" i.e the poor mutt just happened to live in the same 13 story block of flats as someone , who may or may not have been a "suicide bomber".

It was the same Sir Ian Blair who later apologised and said what hard cheese it was for his family. You make omelettes - you break a few eggs... or at least that's a rough translation from the Hebrew of the Israeli Instruction book.

I count 20 people in the picture (Source BBC) , all who look perfectly capable of holding a conversation with an investigative reporter / journalist.

Have you seen any reports of any such conversation - you have of course seen repeatedly stories worldwide of "Mr Jones" who saw an olive skinned man in fancy pants digging into his bag and looking scared. There was a conversation on Radio 4 news on the day from a Dr Buckman who attended from a BMA meeting and reported 12 Dead, 12 seriously injured - since then nothing more.

Giorgos Psaradakis, 47, survived the blast with minor injuries. The bus’s CCTV system was not working on the morning of the attacks so the Metropolitan Police consider Psaradakis a key witness to events leading to the explosion, which killed 13 people

The ABC of bomb iconography - True Terror

Last night ABC News in America screened images of the damage left by the London bombs on July 7, and of unexploded devices found in a car parked at Luton railway station.

These pictures obtained by ABC News show the bombs for the first time. The bombs were made of homemade high-explosives. Some were packaged like pancakes. Some had nails for use as shrapnel. An x- ray picture of one of the bombs in the trunk of the car show a deadly concoction.

This bomb was found 2 weeks ago and the Police / MI 5 / etc., decided to release the first pictures, not to the BBC, the State Broadcasting Corportaion, not to UK newspapers but an American TV station ... the same people who bought you the stories bollocks about "osmium tetroxide"...see Chemical delusions

Oooops! silly me, these bombs were of course in the boot (trunk to those readers in the ex colony of the US of A) of the 7/7 "suicide" bombers they left there with a 8 hour expiry time on the car park ticket. Mark "Urbam" Myth on Newsnight last night (Wed 27/7) opines that the dupe theory won't work because the bombs exploded in the Underground tunnels which required self detonation - so that's the "duped" theory done with, extinguished, removed from public debate.

A major shift in the language of conflict has commenced on both sides of the Atlantic this week. It is a shift we should note with concern, because it helps to mask another rasp on the ratcheting up of control over our freedoms of speech, thoughts and ideas.

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and General Myers chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and as such the supreme military commander of US Forces worldwide,( and the guy who was shooting the Breeze with Congressman McLellan in his office whilst Manhattan burned, Across the Hudson river the Pentagon was blitzed and a field in Pennsylvania became the instant grave of hi-jacking Suadi terrorists and their passengers that clear September Morning in 2001) have spoken of "a global struggle against violent extremism" rather than "the global war on terror," which had been the catchphrase, the leitmotif, the cliché for almost any military activity anywhere that the US chose to use it. Hitler of course used the title for his autobiography of "Mein Kampf" ... My Struggle.


“War in Terror “ is evidently a phrase may has outlived its usefulness, not because it doesn’t frame the policy but it exposes the failure of that war, and hence the failure of the Military in fighting that war.

General Richard Myers, told the National Press Club on Monday (25/7) that he had "objected to the use of the term 'war on terrorism' before, because if you call it a war, then you think of people in uniform as being the solution."

He said the threat instead should be defined as violent extremism, with the recognition that "terror is the method they use."


Whilst military might has evidently failed – although that is not what he said, he saw that we need to use "all instruments of our national power, all instruments of the international communities' national power." The solution is "more diplomatic, more economic, more political than it is military," he concluded. i.e after having fumbled the ball too often, we military heroes are passing the ball to the Politicians.


The scuttlebut on the Hill from a swarm of spinners and Presidential apparatchicks says this reflects the evolution in Bush's own thinking nearly four years after the Sept. 11 attacks. It is also said to follow through from Bush's recent utterances emphasizing freedom, democracy and the worldwide clash of ideas.

To emphasise this shift in “thinking” ( a word we don’t often attribute to POTUS) Rumsfeld used the new language of deceit on Friday when addressing a an ausidence , for the retirement ceremony of Admiral Vern Clark as chief of naval operations at Annapolis, Maryland. Rumsfeld described America's heroic efforts as it "wages the global struggle against the enemies of freedom, the enemies of civilization."

Since then “Rummy” has jetted off to Iraq and been seen in photo ops with the token coloured female soldiers , he arrived there on a surprise visit via Tajikistan and Kyrgistan. Prompted by the joint July 5th announcement of Russia, China, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in recommending a deadline for the withdrawal of U.S. and other foreign troops which the US had used the bases and had air access and overfly rights rights since the 2001 war in Afghanistan.

Rumsfeld held separate meetings with leaders in Kyrgyzstan, who promised continued base facilities in the country, and in Tajikistan, which permits flyover, fueling and emergency operations. The public assurances marked an official turnaround by the countries, both of which on July 5 joined Russia, China, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in recommending a deadline for the withdrawal of U.S. and other foreign troops.

Most critical in the region was a commitment by Ismail Isakiv , Kyrgistan’s defence Minister Kyrgyzstan that U.S. forces can continue operations at the strategically important Manas (also called Ganci) air base. About 1,000 U.S. troops are stationed at the base, established near a civilian airport outside the capital of Bishkek in December 2001 to carry out refueling, airlift and fighter missions to support the war in Afghanistan.

In Dushanbe, the capital, of Tajikistan Rumsfeld met with President Imamali Rakhmonov, provided words of comfort for the US “war on terrorism”.
Foreign Minister Talbak Nazarov appeared with Rumsfeld on the lawn of the Presidential dacha and confirmed Tajikistan's. "We intend to continue our active cooperation with the United States and other anti-terrorist coalition in terms of the anti-terrorist struggle,"

So no real change in the “War on terrorism” in central Asia then. Military build up and carrots and sticks for the ruling despots.

In the real world of US and European politics this shift in language is one of the most public changes in the administration's strategy to battle Al Qaeda and its alleged affiliates, and it follows through from Bush's recent speeches emphasizing freedom, democracy and the worldwide clash of ideas. It is also echoed – surprise , surprise by the comments at a Press briefing by Tony Blair, lawyer and Prime Minister on 26th July at No 10 … QUOTE

“Again this is very difficult to say, but I want to say it to you nonetheless, people have got to be prepared to go into the Muslim community and say, what you are saying about America is rubbish. Now that is difficult because look, there are lots of people, there are people who write things in this country saying America has an evil foreign policy and all the rest of it, look leave aside whether it is right or wrong, American foreign policy or not, or British foreign policy, America is not acting to suppress Islam. People who are Muslims in America, or Muslims in this country, are entitled to worship. HM Government announces “No Bomber Left Behind” Policy

In several announcements today the UK Government made it clear that the NBLB (just a bloodied mess) policy which had been covertly introduced by the previous Chief Constable of the Metropolitan Police Lord Stevens, as “Operation Kratos” would continue and if necessary be extended. What this policy involves is what the elite members of London's finest , SO19 , call the "the shot of excellence."
It's a single gunshot through the mouth that snaps the spinal cord and instantly kills a suspected suicide bomber. It is the essence of Operation Kratos, so-named for the Greek god of strength.

The guidelines also call for up to four more shots -- five in total and all to the head -- to immediately immobilize a suspected suicide bomber.

The rationale for this seemingly brutal approach is simple: a twitching, barely alive suicide bomber is still capable of detonating an explosion in the remaining moments of his life even if he has a body full of bullets.

That's the dilemma."

Home Secretary Charles Clarke didn’t see any need for a change in policy,

"I don't think that means they are wrong to have a policy to deal with these appalling circumstances. I wish we didn't have to, I wish we didn't have suicide bombers but we do. And we have to find means of combating them."

He probably also wishes he didn’t have to interrupt his holiday plans and stay back in London whilst his family swans off to the sun.

"There is no point in shooting anywhere else if they fall down and detonate it. The only way to deal with this is to shoot to the head.”
"I think we are quite comfortable the policy is right but these are fantastically difficult times. We have to take this tragedy, deeply regret it and move on to the main investigation which is proceeding at an extraordinary pace."

For those who may be confused, Yes, this is the same man who, hours after the shooting of the inoccent, Jean Charles de Menezes , told the blatant , unequivocal, unambiguous lie, that the shooting was "directly linked to the ongoing and expanding anti-terrorist operation."

Calling for clarification of the police guidelines on shoot-to-kill, she sympathised with the officer put in the position of shooting Mr de Menezes in the belief that he was a suicide bomber. Ms Cryer was backed by other colleagues on the committee Gwyn Prosser, another Labour and Nick Harvey, a Liberal Democrat.

Naturally press / media reports have been confused and confusing. "Official" statements have been minimal.

I saw the story that the train driver escaped from the train and ran into the tunnel and was there held up against the wall, by a highly trained plain clothes "policeman" who drawing on his extensive training, took a split millisecond decision not to pump him full of lead.

I think this driver , has like other eye witnesses, a tale to tell. Who gave the orders to delay the train ? Why ? Who gave orders to shut / open doors. Why ? Why did the driver leg it ?

He then points to the picture taken later of the Fitness First bag on the bus and a Gold and Black Duracell battery on the seat (He doesn't mention that this photo is courtesy of a resident and keen photgrpaher (not HMG and the Met) who lived right by the bus and took the picture, and what could be Jiffy bags (and slipping into industrial chemist mode he sagely remarks) "to insulate the unstable acetone peroxide".

Does this guy do sophisticated chemical analysis by mind reading ? 2 weeks and the forensic chappies still don't or won't tell us what the 7/7 bombs were made of.

The statement reads: "We believe we now know the identity of the man shot at Stockwell Underground station by police on Friday 22nd July 2005, although he is still subject to formal identification.

"We are now satisfied that he was not connected with the incidents of Thursday 21st July 2005.

"For somebody to lose their life in such circumstances is a tragedy and one that the Metropolitan Police Service regrets."

The statement confirmed the man was followed by police from a house in Tulse Hill that was under surveillance.

His death is being investigated by officers from the MPS Directorate of Professional Standards, and will be referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission. (after a very, very long time no doubt)

No further details were available about the victim of the public execution.

170 cleaners organised by The Transport and General Workers Union staged a 24-hour walkout from Parliament on Wednesday, General Secretary Jack Dromey joined the protest with some 2- Labour MP’s.

The cleaners, employed by 2 private contractors, not directlty by parliament, earn £5 an hour, with no sick pay or pension, and receive 12 days' holiday a year. Staff directly employed by parliamentary authorities receive £8 an hour, six weeks' holiday, sick pay and a pension.

The statutory minimum wage is currently £4.85 an hour, set to increase to £5.05 an hour in October.

Martyn Besey, the director general of the Cleaning and Support Services Association, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that the cleaning industry was "highly competitive" and profits last year for every company in the sector were less than 4%.

One of the cleaners, Tesfaalen Gebru, 43, said he had two cleaning jobs at the Commons to earn a decent wage. He cleaned kitchens during the night and then cleared rubbish during the day, working a 64-hour week. (Technically against EU legislation on Maximum working hours)

The men who ran the Iqra Learning Centre in Beeston, Leeds - Mohammad Tafazal (AKA Taf) , army-trained Martin Abdullah McDaid and Naveed Fiaz - allegedly funded the store through grants to the Hamara Youth Centre, which received £589,000 in taxpayers' money made up of a £200,000 capital grant, a £200,000 neighbourhood renewal grant and a £189,000 EU building grant says the Mirror today .

Siddique Khan who died in the bombing was a regular companion of Fiaz for several years and the pair even visited our insider's home.

Keys to the "terror base" at 18 Alexandra Grove in Burley, Leeds, were regularly used by "brothers in arms" who came to the store and needed somewhere to stay.

The insider, who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals, also says McDaid asked for high-security encryption for their computer systems so it would hard even for government agencies to access e-mails.

He claimed: "Hidden Agenda and Think Again (£5 a throw DVD’s the Mirror obtained) even stole material from the Government's own websites and then used it in the propaganda messages against them."

He went on: "Taf would tell us about how he could get money from the Hamara and said it all came from Leeds city council, community grants and even EU funding.

Khalid Khaliq, the Ikra assistant being quizzed by police, was not at his family address yesterday. A man leaving Fiaz's home refused to comment and his partner Tracey Corrigan declined to come to the door.

Tafazal has not been seen at either of his addresses in Leeds for several days.
Abdullah McDaid referred us to his London-based solicitor!!!, who has declined to return our calls for the past five days.

Hydrogen Cost Goal

In 2005, the Department of Energy developed a new hydrogen cost goal and methodology. The previous hydrogen cost goal of $1.50/gasoline gallon equivalent (gge, delivered, untaxed, 2001$, by 2010) was developed in 2002, and was based on hydrogen produced from distributed natural gas reforming. The strategy was that hydrogen should cost no more than gasoline on an equivalent energy basis. Since one kilogram of hydrogen contains approximately the same energy as one gallon of gasoline, the hydrogen cost goal was set at $1.50/kg (or $1.50/gge) to be equivalent to the untaxed cost of gasoline.

The new hydrogen cost goal of $2.00-3.00/gge (delivered, untaxed, 2005$, by 2015) is independent of the pathway used to produce and deliver hydrogen. In addition, the new methodology accounts for the energy efficiency of the gasoline hybrid vehicle and the fuel cell vehicle on a cost-per-mile basis. The cost goal was derived using the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) fuel-efficiency improvement factors and the Energy Information Administration (EIA) “High A” gasoline price projection for 2015. In the High A case, the U.S. economy is more vulnerable to limited oil supplies from foreign sources due to the increasing world and U.S. oil demand, resulting in higher oil prices. This case is more representative of the economic and energy security environment in which hydrogen must compete. (Emphasis mine)

The new hydrogen target is in alignment with the Hydrogen Fuel Initiative goal of enabling an industry commercialization decision by 2015, and will be used to guide the Department’s hydrogen and fuel cell research and development activities.

FCUKED - House of Lords reports

I started the Forthcoming UK Energy Deficiency group (FCUKED) 3 years ago. It requires back of an enevelope math to see that with the absence of any nuclear or coal fired power stations being built or being considered that the dependency on imported gas (70% by 2020 at least) is a threat to UK security.

Wind / water / biofuels / energy efficiency are playing at the edges. I can't precis this report just read it for yourself - having of course read the comical White Paper New Labour issued a Stone Age (and several Energy Ministers )ago.

House of Lords, Science & Technology Committee, Report on Energy Efficiency, says ... amongst its 350 odd pages which a must and unput downable read... Remember for some reason they exclude transport air and land from the report which is odd but made the report manageable. Their conclusion makes it evident why the dear leader wants rid of the HOL.... well besides the brown nosers he appoints, Lord Warner etc (I could go on but won't)

A drugs courier told Cardiff Crown Court how a team of former paratroopers recruited him to join a multi-million pound smuggling ring.

Mark Ralph, 34, was an unemployed factory worker when he was persuaded to become a drugs runner, carrying more than £4m in cannabis and amphetamines.

But Ralph became a police informant. The former soldiers of the Third Parachute Regiment are accused of using their military expertise to distribute cannabis and amphetamines in an operation spanning Britain.

Approached by gang

Ralph is alleged to have moved drugs worth £4m in 15 trips from Dover to south Wales. Ex-paras Adrian Howells, 32, John Davidson, 32, ex-soldier John Bloodworth, 29, are on trial for being part of the gang.

Ralph, of Cwmbran, South Wales, told the court he was approached by the gang after losing his job. He said: "I was paid £200 a trip to take money to Dover and bring drugs back and I was also paid to store drugs in my shed."

Business used as cover

But Ralph began giving information to the police.
The court was told the gang set up a second-hand car sales business as cover for their cash and for running couriers around the country.

Police found a military-style list of instructions to John Bloodworth from his ex-para brother Steven, 29.

John Bloodworth, of St Dials, Cwmbran, south Wales, Howells, of Thanet Gardens, Folkstone, Kent, and Davidson, of Odo Road, Dover, Kent, all deny conspiracy to supply amphetamine and cannabis.

Leeds Visitor 3 days before the London Bombings

On July 4th, 3 days before the London Bombings, William Scott Ritter, ex marine, "ex" CIA, ex UNSCOM Weapons Inspector, a man arrested in 2001 for child sex offences in Albany upstate New York (he visited a Burger King after having arranged an Internet meet with a junior for sex sesions but met the Police - Google "Scott Ritter Burger King" for over 200 links to story ) visited Leeds.

The picture shows him neatly framed with the inverted US flag in the background - a criminal offence in the USA., before addressing the annual Independence Day protest organised by Lindis Pierce, Peace Protester who the Police wanted to serve an ASBO on, and now having failed to do so want her electronically tagged.

Later in the evening he addressed a crowd in Leeds. The previous weekend he had been in Edinburgh and adressed some G8 associated events.

Now the Metropolitan Police say an al-Quaeda operator entered the country and left just before the London bombings.

Just what was he doing in Leeds ?

We all make assumptions. Four guys were carrying bombs that blew up. They knew each other, they had travelled together that day, twoAsians from Leeds, an Asian friend from Leeds who had moved to Luton and a West Indian guy who had recently arrived in Aylesbury.

The four men joined the Thamesmead train from Luton to London Kings Cross carrying rucksacks. They looked, said a police man who has seen CCTV footage from Kings Cross Main Hall," as though they were going on a walking holiday", smiling joking.

They split up, three to die within some 20 minutes, the fourth an eighteen year old another hour later on a bus where he was sat on the back seat upstairs.

All of them were carrying bombs that killed them.

You know that. Did they ?

Mohammed Hanif, 31, and Abdul Mateen, 22, from Deeplish in Rochdale were caught in Glasgow with 10kg of the drug, worth £1 million in street deals. Hanif claimed that Mateen had driven him to Glasgow to collect £500 owed to him for a car by another Asian. Strathclyde Police drug squad detectives, acting on a tip-off, arrested the pair and found the drugs in a car boot.The men said they knew nothing about the drugs.

Drugs are a massive business, they are moved into and around the country endlessly, apparently with minimal disruption, 10Kg of heroin – (5 bags of granulated sugar) are worth £1Mn at street level.

What do we know ?

London Transport CCTV footage shows that a group of 4 men carrying what are described as Army surplus backpacks who are from West Yorkshire men arrived in Kings Cross Station at approx 8.30 am last Wednesday 7th July. Some 20 minutes later 3 bombs exploded on tube trains which originated from there going East, West and South.

One hour later a third bomb exploded on the 30 London Transport bus then entering Tavistock Place.It is probable that the man on this bus was due to travel on a North Bound tube and was not destined to travel on that bus.

The four men are said to be British born, 3 from West Yorkshire and a fourth man possibly from Luton (see story below) where a suspicious car has been identified in the Luton Railway Station Car Park and secured for forensic examination. This may be a hire car, for which the owner apperaed today to collect. Documents and property found at the scenes of the bombings have been found identifying all four men, and other people from West Yorkshire. There is still insufficient evidence to say that three of the men died in the Tube bombings but it looks most likely that they did.

The parents of the fourth man who probably died in the bus bombing , his parents in Leeds, contacted the Police to notify he was missing on Thursday morning after the bombings.

In Leeds the Police have arrested one man, said to be a relative of one of the bombers, who is being taken to London. At least six properties are being searched and some property has been “made safe”.

Who Bombed London ?.....well certainly not this lot ..?

It is not difficult to find “experts” on the Web who point their fingers at London based al-Muhajiroun along with the comical Jihadist Omar Bakri and Abu Hamza.

This bunch of black garbed loony toons appeared on the streets of Blackburn at election time – co-incidentally on the same day that (ex?) MI5 spies, David Shayler and the glamorous Anne Machon put in an appearance hustling her new book …” Spies,Lies and Whistleblowers: MI5 and the David Shayler Affair” ..(Was £17.95, now remaindered.) al-Muhajiroun are rejected by every Muslim organisation in the UK.

Omar Bakri, is reported as saying in April 2004 that a group calling itself al-Qaida Europe "has a great appeal for young Muslims. I know that they are ready to launch a big operation."

Some two hours after the bombing a statement was briefly posted on an obscure website from a previously unheard of group claiming itself the Secret Organization of al-Qaida in Europe and claimed responsibility for the attacks in London (also misquoting Koranic verses). This in the fevered minds of “expert” conspirators could (?) that be Bakri's "Al Qaida Europe".

Bakri is said to be facing arrest. He took over from Hamza after his arrest. Most of the September 11 hijackers are said to have been through the London offices of Bakri and Hamza. Bakri said quite a lot in past. For example, he told the Italian Journal, Publica in an interview published on Sunday that there were several "freelance" militant groups in Europe, such as al-Qaida London and are prepared to launch attacks similar to those carried out by the al-Qaida network. Yeah ! Yeah ! Whatever.

These farcical fundamentalists share the distinction with the McCarthyite American Communist Party in receiving more money from the Government through their planted agents than from it’s members.

Now I don't know where the quarry is where you can find the stuff that from which he manufactured his amazing crystal ball, but it sounds to me that ;

On Thursday the BBC reported that London's Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair ( Mystic Meg Steven's successor) told the BBC at 11.18 am (2.5 hrs after tube bombs)he knows of "about six explosions", one on a bus and the others related to Underground stations.

If they don't make it up, they get it wrong.

The more we are told, the less we know. The more we are not told, the more of a shambles this appears to be.

Charles Clarke MP (AKA Home Secretary, responsible for our protection) said in Parliament the day following the bombs..." The fact is we have a very effective intelligence service but we didn't predict this particular attack at this particular time.

I haven't been posting here for as month because I have otherblogs with other concerns.
Paradoxical my last post related to the posters on Washingtoj area trains to be on the lookout for ...anything.

Probably the weirdest story to appear about the bombing is A New Zealander working for Reuters in London says 2 colleagues witnessed the unconfirmed shooting by police of two apparent suicide bombers outside the HSBC tower at Canary Wharf in London.

The first and overall impresson so far is of a complete shambles of a response.

We now discover that;

1. The central control (Gold Commander) did not know of any bombing until 9.17 am , a delay of 28 minutes.
2. The public were being told that the cause of problems was a "power surge" which was wrong.
3. According to eye witness accounts the first rescuers in the tunnels were Underground staff equipped with torches, no safety equipment , no sensors to detect gases, biological contaminants , no protective clothing - not even first aid kits.
4. We now discover 50 hours after the incidents, that the bombs were synchronised over at most 55 seconds and not over some 28 / 30 minutes as has been repeatedly publicised.
5. There is no evidence from TV footage, reporting, blogs, personal contact of any fielding of any Bio / nuclear / gas testing, operators, treatment units. ... or did they know they weren't needed ?

Now we have reports in the Scotsman that we seek extradition of "the usual suspects" from France.

Meanwhile we see, on the anniversary of the bombing by the French CGSE of the "Rainbow Warrior" was approved by President Mitterand personally.

Of course States don't get involved in international acts of terror....
