Wal-Mart says 25,000 people--almost all from Chicago--applied for the 325 jobs at the new Evergreen Park store which is outside the city limits.

Chicago shoppers spend about half a billion dollars a year at the company's 67 Chicago-area locations, including Wal-Marts, Supercenters and Sam's Clubs.
