Bring 'em on - the boys bring home the bacon ...er

Today is the 25th Anniversary of the Rescue of "Sir" Mark Thatcher the wannabee terrorist, adulterer, divorcee, disgraced financier ( a mere 29 yr old stripling) competed in 1982, in the Paris-Dakar rally, with the nubile exotic and highly experienced French lady co-driver, Charlotte Verney. They, with their mechanic went missing in the Sahara Desert for six days.

On the 2nd January 1982 they had become separated from a convoy of vehicles after they stopped to make repairs to a faulty steering arm (rumour was he had stopped for a "quickie"). Declared missing on January 12 , his mother Mrs Thatcher, in tears, demanded a massive aerial search of the whole of African continent , a C-130 Hercules search plane from the Algerian military spotted the white Peugeot 504 some 50km off course, run out of petrol in a lay by.

Thatcher, Verney and the mechanic were (thank God) all unharmed.

Mark Thatcher Racing Ltd., was later, like many of the boy Mark's business ventures in "financial difficulties" and was bankrupted and shut.

Let's hope that people don't dredge up pictures of Harry in a different Army Uniform and make sick jokes about joining the Afrika Korps - or even suggest he is following in his Father's (the real one) footsteps.
