Noam Shalit, the distraught father of abducted IDF soldier Corporal Gilad Shalit גלעד שליט is reported in Haaretz today calling on Syrian President Assad to ask Hamas leader Khaled Meshal, exiled in Syria, to carry out a small, humanitarian gesture, because he holds the key to his son's release.

Asked is Shalit was in a good health recently , Meshaal grinned, and told a reporter for asharq alawasat: "He is good and he sends his regards." on November 11th 2006.

In a report on December 6th president Mubarak was quoted in the quasi official Egyptian newspaper Al Gomhouria , "Negotiations on releasing him are in their final stage and waiting for Hamas' approval."

Was he kidnapped ? Is he alive ? Is he dead ?
