During his two and a half years in London he was responsible for corporate change management, IT services and accommodation, gaining practical experience of delivering large PFI projects.
He has been Director of GCHQ for five years (KCMG - Order of St Michael and St George in 2005 Birthday Honours) involving a move from over 50 ageing buildings into a new state-of-the-art headquarters in Cheltenham (The Donut) ,

He is married with two sons and his leisure interests include music, reading, walking and cooking.
He has just called to tell us that he retires in July, his successor has not been named (or probably selected yet)....no doubt whoever it is will be busily involved in Jacqui Smiths knicker wetting ideas on controlling the Internet and suppressing the awkward squad.
Who knows it could be someone recruited via the subliminal advertising by GCHQ in shoot 'em down games earlier this year.

UPDATE Saturday : Contacts at GCHQ appear anxious to explain that David's monster auditory apparatus earned him the soubriquet "Plug" the super intelligent hero of the Beano's Bash Street Kids at an early age. Rumours that his ears could be brought into use when the comms satellites were down, are apparently totally unfounded.
