EU-US Personal Flight Data Treaty signed - Uncle Sam needs to know what your meal preferences are

Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred upon Her by sections 60(1), (2)(b), (3)(h) and (4), 61(1)(a) and 102(2)(b) of, and paragraph 2 of Part 3 of Schedule 13 to, the Civil Aviation Act 1982(a), is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order as follows: ... etc which means that 34 bits of data about you , name, address, sex, food preferences, credit card number, etc.,etc., will disappear of to the data vaults of uncle Sam forever.

At the time the EU were negotiating a treaty with the US , but HMQ couldn't wait so she pulled the old Order in Council trick on behalf of anyone who flies to the US from a UK airport, one of her cherished citizens or not.

Anyone noticed any MP's MEP's, Scots / Welsh MP's say anything whilst all this was whizzed through whilst they were on holiday last year ?

Slightly more concerned about revealing all this data the EU have finally now negotiated a treaty for dealing with all this data that was signed yesterday in Washington by US Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff and Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs Luis Amado on the behlf of every EU citizen and any other passenger choosing to fly from an EU airport to the USA. Chertoff says his guts tell him that such data is "an essential screening tool for detecting potentially dangerous trans-Atlantic travelers."

Concern over privacy rights led the EU to insist on a reduction in the number of data points (from 34 to 19) and to complain that the data would be stored for too long.

The US won't keep the data forever they will keep the data active for seven years, and then in a "dormant" file for specific uses for an additional eight years - how you check that it get's erased / destroyed is left to the imgaination. And US officials will not be able to access airlines' records directly, instead relying on the airlines to send them data -- or face fines.

Those 34 points have been reduced to 30, the remaining 11 points have such as race or religion is supposed to be filtered out, for instance, but could be retained in special cases. "This is like Swiss cheese -- for every rule, there is an exception or escape clause," says Dutch MEP Sophie in 't Veld "This fails completely, despite all the statements to the contrary."

"The Americans basically declare on their word of honor that they will be very careful with our personal data," Sophie in 't Veld says. "Based on our experiences in the past, that's not good enough." (Der Spiegel)

Again this year everyone is off on holiday so don't expect any MP's MEP's, Scots / Welsh MP's say anything whilst all this was whizzed through whilst they were on holiday again.

Idi Amin - another Tyrant allowed a free rein for killing a country and it's people

A snap Lord Patel took of Idi Amin and its his beautiful wife in February 1972 in front of the Brandenburger Gate, Berlin. Amine, the Ugandan Light Heavyweight boxing champion 51-60, Sandhurst educated was the first colored soldier in Uganda to become an officer.

Brigadier Pierino Okoya, the deputy chief of the army and Amin's sole rival among senior army officers and his wife are shot dead at their home January 25th 1970.

He took power on 25th January 1971 in an Israeli backed coup d'etat in 1971 whilst pipe smoking President Milton Obote was out of the countryat the Commonwealth Conference in Singapore.

His first overseas trip as President is a state visit to Israel.

He embarked on a crazy journey of bloodletting, savagery and crafty biffonery ...nobody was spared, and one was immune from the murder squads. The chief justice, Benedicto Kiwanuka, was dragged from the High Court by soldiers and never seen again. The vice-chancellor of the University of Makerere, once the finest university in black Africa, disappeared. When Janan Luwuum, Uganda’s Anglican Archbishop, spoke out against the reign of terror, Amin publicly denounced him. The archbishop’s bullet-riddled body, still in ecclesiastical robes, was later dumped in a Kampala mortuary. Amin also killed and dismembered Kay, the feistiest of his many wives, and dumped her remains in the boot of the car of her lover, who was also killed.

After ejecting the Asians, the economy goes in free fall and over 300,000 are killed by Amin. Amin invades Tanzania in 1978 and the invading Tanzanian forces take Kampala on 11 April 1979. Amin flees to Libya, taking his four wives, several of his 30 mistresses and about 20 of his children.

Besides a huge death toll, Amin has left Uganda with an annual inflation rate of 200%, a national debt of US$320 million, an agricultural sector in tatters, closed factories and ruined businesses.

He dies in exile in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia 16th August 2003.

Maguta means villagers on communal land are compelled by Army thugs them to grow maize and sorghum, which they must then sell to the army-run Grain Marketing Board(GMB)

Geoffrey Bindman is a solicitor, he received a knighthood in the 2007 New Year's honours list for services to human rights. He represents Sandy Mitchell, (pic BBC) Bill Sampson and Leslie Walker who were arrested in Saudi Arabia, tortured and signed false confessions for bombings and murder of a UK citizen Christopher Rodway, at whose inquest held at Trowbridge, Wiltshire, in 2005 the coroner accepted their innocence.

The "confessions", were videoed and shown on Saudi State TV, they ludicrously claimed that they had been acting on the instructions of named officials of the British embassy. A sham trial resulted in Sandy and Bill to be sentenced to execution by crucifixion.

After much intergovernmental and secret wrangling and 3 years in jail they were released in August 2003. British ministers had applied some pressure for their release, but the key was a US Government agreement to exchange them for 4 Saudis held at Guantanamo Bay released in May 14th 2003. The men are broken, jobless, unemployable. They seek compensation. No one, no UK minister doubts the men's innocence

In November 2006, Bindman met Margaret Beckett - then finding her feet as the new Foreign Secretary. In preparatory remarks she explained her naive and simplistic approach: never pursue a course of action that you know is bound to fail.

Simply , the Saudis were not going to budge, her time was too precious to waste convincing them. The king she was told still believed the men were guilty. If an opportunity arose she would pass on our concern to the Saudis. It was evident that she felt no obligation to persuade him that he had been misinformed.

Geoffrey Bindman says " ....... far from helping their citizens to get justice, the UK government has hindered them in a number of ways. Most remarkably in our particular case, it intervened on the side of the Saudis."

There were fears the Eurofighter deal could be lost.
Saudi Arabia has said it will start taking deliveries of 72 Eurofighter jets (US$16.6Bn) from UK defence company BAE Systems "very soon".
