One thing that struck me about this guy's confession is that he refers to 'making explosives by mixing fertilizers' which is kind of odd as we have been told that the bombs on the 21st contained TATP. My chemistry is a little rusty but I'm pretty sure you can't make TATP with fertiliser (not 100% sure).
Maybe it was a mistranslation on his part but it's small point worth keeping an eye on.
Ammonium nitrate is the fertiliser usually used - adulterating it by up to 30% doesn't have much effect on it's use as an explosive.
There is some evidence (from the huge IRA Manchester bomb) that the chalk used actually acted as an accelerant !
The only thing is you need the explosive packed in some sort of pressure container which is leakproof to mix it with diesel fuel - which doesn't seem to be the case in the 21/7 bombs.
The story he tells that they were just a warning shot does ring true however.
I must say the court chose him a pretty lawyer - I note that reports both on TV and press do have lots of photos of her. She can handle my briefs any time she likes.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking - about the lawyer and the explosives. Packing a few hundred pounds in milk churns might to the trick. Five pounds packed in tupperware ain't that scary - detonate something like that and the top might come flying off with a pop, scattering the contents, and that's your lot. Like I said, maybe it's a translation thing, maybe the bloke's ignorant about what he was carrying or maybe it really wasn't TATP which would mean the police are, um, not being entirely truthful
Re. the warning shots thing. I really don't know. All five of the bombs were duds and they were set outside of rush hour plus I keep seeing pictures of the suspects on empty buses. I can buy the thought that lethal intent wasn't there. Having said that, if you're carrying TATP just a misplaced cough or wind-breaking event could set that stuff off.
Not buying the coincidence between the two attacks thing at all. I can believe the two groups of bombers were unaware of each other but somebody must have coordinated this.
