Postman Patel - TV Megastar in the making ? Apparently not

"Postman Pat is to return to children’s television in a new series that will feature an Asian character,” announces The Times.

Apparently this is some kind of attempt to make the programme more relevant or modern, or something.

“Research was done into an appropriate name for the Asian characters,” says a spokesman for Entertainment Rights, the go-ahead company that paid £5.1m for the rights.

“We didn’t want a stereotype like ‘Patel’.” Indeed not. And although the chosen name – Mr Bain – doesn’t do much for the TV site MegaStar, they are delighted by his distinctive appearance. Especially the hook.
