Pentagon "investigation" into Aegis "trophy video" was cursory, flawed and refused vital evidence.
The Bush administration's special envoy to Northern Ireland, Ambassador Mitchell Reiss, has been informed in an email letter by the Pat Finnucane Centre that it was contacted by an individual "who wishes to provide vital information to the trophy video investigation" being carried out by the Pentagon.
(Story in Irish Echo June 13th 2006)
But don't hold your breath ....
"This man has informed us that he is a former Aegis employee, Mr. Rod Stoner. He has informed us that he was present in the vehicle when the shooting occurred and that he was responsible for posting it on the website.
Rod is an ex British army corporal from the Parachute Regiment who was employed as a security consultant byAegis in 2004 and 2005. Channel 4 TV (UK) interviewed him On on April 6th 2006 and identified him as having created the website and posted the videos there. Stoner told the program that Aegis was about to take legal action to have him silenced, and to get his website closed dow."He has also informed us that Aegis showed no interest in interviewing him during their internal investigation which apparently ended earlier this year. Most disturbing of all is his allegation that Aegis have refused his repeated requests to be put in contact with those within the Pentagon responsible for the investigation into the video.
"Mr. Stoner has also informed us that it is his understanding that none of those present in the vehicle have been contacted by the Pentagon, or indeed by any official investigating the video. If true this would suggest that a cover-up has taken place of matters concerning serious criminal wrong doing, including murder," the letter to Reiss added.
Copies of the email letter to Reiss have been sent to Consul General Pitman, Irish foreign affairs minister Dermot Ahern, Lt. General Stanley Green, Inspector General of the U.S. Army and a number of U.S. legislators including Senators Schumer, Chris Dodd, Hillary Clinton, Edward Kennedy and John McCain.
The truth is blnidingly obvious, Mr Stoner is telling the unadulterated truth, the video was , as stated, film of Aegis staff wildly shooting up Iraqi civilian motor vehicles.
General Sir Roger Wheeler , Knight Grand Cross of the Bath , CBE was Chief of the General Staff, the professional head of the British Army, between 1997 and 2000. Sir Roger is the current 'Constable of the Tower of London'. He is also a Non-Executive Director in Aegis Defence Services.
As a member of Spicer’s Advisory Board he advises on potential human rights abuses by Aegis private security guards in Iraq.
Wheeler was the most senior of three British Army officers to sit on the original Army Board that ruled that the murderers Guardsmen Wright and Fisher, of Peter Mc Bride could remain in the British Army. The murderers were under the command of none other than glamorous, louche, rent a gun Lt Col Tim Spicer, then Scots Guards Commander in Belfast in 1992 when Guardsmen Wright and Fisher, under his command, murdered 18 year old Peter Mc Bride.
In January 2003 Wheeler was appointed Chairman of Thales Air Defence.
"I am delighted to join the board of Thales, the second largest defence company in the UK," said Sir Roger. "My aim is to bring my experience to what is already a very competent organisation and help deliver the best service to Thales' customers." he said at the time.
Jean Mc Bride, mother of the murder victim, said August 12th 2004...
“The Chairman of this company, Tim Spicer, thought his soldiers were above the law when they shot Peter in the back. Now we find out that an advisor to the company is the General who decided that the murder of my son wasn’t anything to lose sleep over and the two soldiers could continue to wear the Queen’s uniform. These people have no shame. Now they are all busy earning money on the backs of other people’s misery. I just hope that anyone with any sense of decency can understand that this is wrong.”
Photos of General Wheeler are rare , this shows him (on the right) glass in hand, as Director of the Tank Museum at Bovey Tracey.
