Massive (Richter 7.1 and 7.0 ) Earthquakes on Taiwan and Chinese Coast near Qemoy

Japan's Meteorological Bureau reports a one-meter (3.3-foot) -high tsunami triggered by a powerful quake off Taiwan was headed toward the east coast of the Philippines.
"There is a possibility of a destructive local tsunami,'' the bureau said, saying waves were expected to hit Basco in the Philippines.
Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau said the quake struck at about 8:34 p.m. (1234 GMT) and measured magnitude 6.7, while the U.S. Geological Survey put it at magnitude 7.1.
