Sunderland used to make ships ..now they ship Qashquais
Nissan's Sunderland Plant started by assembling Bluebirds sent from Japan in kit form in 1986 and have been a European base since and ship cars to 45 countries. The Primera was shipped back to Japan and that ended in 1996 so the 4,300 toilers for the Land of the Rising Sun are thrilled that the Qashqai( The Dualis in Japan) started shipping in December for Japan - 20,000 have already gone.
The Qashqai, Sunderland's tenth new model since 1986, represents an investment of £223 million and takes total investment in the factory to over £2.3 billion.
Qashquai, that's the barmy ad that turns the vehicle into a skateboard - "The ad is showing us how the CUV will tackle anything the urban jungle can throw at it and provide some youthful thrills in the process"... yeah, right.
