UK Housing as a store of wealth- unbeatable over 5 years
The Land Registry's House Price Index is the most accurate independent house price index available. It uses Land Registry's data set of completed sales making it the only index to be based on actual price paid.
They figures for April have been published today
Current index 218.8
Average price £179,935
Monthly change 0.6%
Annual change 9.1%
Greater London and Brighton and Hove are the areas with the highest annual price change both with an increase of 15.6 %.
Where Lord Patel lives the index has risen from April 2002 to April 2007 from 121.4 to 239.8 a rise of almost 100% and the average price has risen from £63,700 to £126,800.

PS The US dollar has dropped from @1.32 to @1.99 per pound Sterling in the last 6 years.
