Where are They Now No 452: George Galloway Showman, Impresario, Talk Show Host, part time MP

Rarely seen and rarely heard - George Galloways's last intervention in Parliament was in January when he asked a question about Tony Blair (Prime Minister) visiting a hospital in his constituency without consulting him. A speech on Iraq at the time on Iraq has disappeared from his official website, but evidently the 52 year old and his glamorous Lebanese girlfriend Rima Husseini, 36, have been making hay whilst he is out of the sunlight - although as she is registered as his Parliamentary Secretary they must see a lot of each other - ah! the nimble fingers of a competent typist.

George already has a beautiful daughter, Lucy, 24 from his first marriage to glamorous Elaine Fyffe who has produced him two fine boucing grandchildren already.

The good news is of our hermitic revolutionary is that Rima gave birth last Sunday at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London at 12.20pm. to his first son - but the show must go on - by 7.15pm, the chirpy father and Bethnal Green and Bow MP was at the Hackney Empire for a Mother Of All Sundays billed as evening of pungent political commentary, debate, humour and verbal fireworks with George Galloway MP. The man who humbled the US Senate and now draws in a record audience for his radio phone-in show on TalkSport will be answering all the questions you throw at him during this special one man show - £15; £10 for students, unemployed, old age pensioners.

The Scots get a chance for this rib tickling reprise of the Archie Rice of Parliament at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh - 3rd of June 2007, and Glasgow - ROYAL CONCERT HALL (Strathclyde Suite) 10th of June 2007.

Some time examining the local election results for 2006 of George's empire shows ;

Labour Party's candidates Mohammed Abdus Salique / Bethnal Green (North). Salim Ulla, Bethnal Green South, Sirajul Is and Carli Harper-Penman won seats

In Bow East, Marc Francis, Alexander Kenneth Heslop and Ahmed Adam Omer won seats for Labour.
In Bow West, Anwara Ali, Ann Theresa Jackson and Joshua Peck won seats for Labour
In Bromley by Bow Abdul Aziz Sardar won a seat for...Labour.

In the 2007 elections 3 Respect Councillors were elected Nationwide. Michael Lavalette was re-elected in Preston. Shirebrook North West ward (Bolsover) Ray Ward with 295 votes beat Stephen Fritchley Labour 265. In Sparkbrook ward (Birmingham) Mohammed Ishtiaq 3,512 votes handsomeley beat Mohamed Azim Labour 2,503.

Lest anyone think that George Galloway doesn't earn his salary nor the mother of his child hers, consider this his last trenchant question in the House ;

The information requested cannot be provided, in order to protect the personal security of individuals involved. The methodology and sample size used for the opinion poll were appropriate in order to gain statistically valid results.

Any further sighting of George will be reported ...

PS : A spokesman says the child will NOT be called Fidel. No.

You have not been kept up to date. I have and I know he gets on with his work in Parliament as he should.

According to Hansard: 15th May 2007, George Galloway was in Parliament and among other things, he asked this question:

Mr. Galloway: To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent assessment she has made of standards of policing in Basra; and if she will make a statement. [136479]

Dr Howells: Assessments have been made of the capability of Iraqi police stations and units in Basra, using criteria agreed with the Government of Iraq and the multi-national force. Judged by these criteria, over 80 per cent. of police stations in Basra city are assessed as being largely or fully capable of carrying out their essential duties.

However, the Basra police continues to face significant challenges, particularly in the areas of serious corruption, militia infiltration and leadership. It will be vital for the Iraqis to address these problems in order to create a secure environment for the local population, and the Government are providing advice to help them in this task. The Serious Crimes Unit of the Basra police was widely associated with violent corruption, and was disbanded in December 2006. A functioning Iraqi Department of Internal Affairs, reporting directly to the central government, has been established to investigate, arrest and prosecute corrupt police officers. The UK is supporting the work of this unit directly. In addition, UK police mentors are actively engaged in building the leadership and specialist skills of the Basra police.

Double Thanks - we had seen the question but not the answer , which regrettably allows Howell to tell us what a wnderful job our lads are doing... and help prolong the conflict.

The excitement of the birth distracted us and we were busy examining astronomical tables to see what conjunction of the stars was at 12.10 last Sunday.

So far it seems world supplies of Gold, frankicense and myrrh are safe.

I feel dirty
Jus' readin' yo name.

Re: Dr Howell's answer, are we then to infer that the Iraqi DIA is investigating the Basra Serious Crimes Unit so there's no regular policing being done??!!
I note he does not state what the agreed criteria are for making the capability assessments.
