Madeleine McCann: carefree child - careless parents
The Sun 4th Feb 2008 ...." a poignant new picture of Maddie on her bike last spring"
Why cycle helmets save lives - Brake
"Wearing a helmet is recommended for all cyclists, but it is especially important for children. Children often have less control over their movements on a bike and are more likely to make errors of judgement. Child cyclists are also smaller and therefore harder for drivers to spot.
Helmets are effective for cyclists of all ages, in crashes which do and do not involve another vehicle. A 1999 report by the British Medical Association (BMA) strongly recommended that all cyclists, but especially children, wear a helmet when riding on the public highway.
In early 2004, Eric Martlew MP introduced a Ten Minute Rule Bill (Protective Headgear for Young Riders), which would make helmet wearing compulsory for all children riding bikes.[5]
A law to make cycle helmet wearing compulsory for children is supported by the Royal College of Nursing, the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, the Child Accident Prevention Trust, the Children’s Brain Injury Trust, Headway (the brain injury association), the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, and Brake.
A Bill passed in 1990 made it compulsory for children on horseback to wear a helmet"
Visit the site to see what Dr Tim Coats who is a Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Leicester and sees first-hand the horrific injuries suffered by cyclists in road accidents has to say about children wearing helmets.
Curiously Dr Gerry McCann, the father of Madeleine McCann is a cardiologist at Glenview Hospital , Leicester one of the 3 hospitals in the University of Leicester Hospital NHS Trust.
The McCann family can consider themselves lucky that helmetless Madeleine did not suffer a head or brain injury before she disappeared from her 'trusting and caring' family.

Some questions for the Fund Directors , compiled by ex Mirror Forum members some of whom now reside at 3arguidos website
TO: BWB SECRETARIAL LIMITED
Dear Sirs,
As Company Secretary for Madeleine’s Fund: Leaving No Stone Unturned Limited, I would ask you to kindly put the following list of questions to the Board of Directors of the company. The questions are a result of concerns which members of the public have expressed regarding the financial management and governance of the Fund
QUESTIONS FOR THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF MADELEINE’S FUND: LEAVING NO STONE UNTURNED LIMITED (Total: 17 questions)
1) When will the Board of Directors issue a detailed, itemised report to the general public of all revenue received and expenditure incurred for the Find Madeleine Fund?
2) Who are the present authorised signatories on the Find Madeleine Fund bank account and who has been an authorised signatory in the past?
3) Were the entire 148,000 posters for the Valentine campaign printed before requesting permission from Mari Luz's family?
4) Is the affiliated site - helping to find Madeleine - being funded either in whole or in part by the Find Madeleine Campaign?
5) Who is the 'Fund Administrator' referred to on the Find Madeleine Website? Is this person also a director - if so, which one?
6) Why was the address for queries on the latest forms submitted to Companies House given as Edward Smethurst at Latium Group and not the Fund's registered office? Since Mr. Smethurst is also the “McCanns' Legal Coordinator” (as described on Panorama), is this wise?
7) Can you explain in detail who is paying the cost of Metodo 3's services - both their standard fees AND expenses - and also exactly how much they have been paid and are due to be paid? (See point 8 below also regarding this).
8 A major concern is the present apparent blurring of the boundaries between private benefactors, the McCanns - possibly acting as shadow directors and decision makers - and the power of the board of directors. (I refer in particular to this quote from the Sunday Times on 10th February - “(Clarence) Mitchell says the decision to hire M-3 on a six-month contract from September was taken “collectively” by Gerry McCann, and the family’s lawyers and backers” ).
What safeguards are in place - in the form of procedures and protocols to ensure that the Find Madeleine Fund remains wholly distinct from Gerry and Kate McCann's defence fund?
9) On November 5th 2007 Esther McVey was reported in the Liverpool Daily Post as saying the following about Kate and Gerry McCann: “I really want to stress that they have never asked for one penny from the fund – despite taking un-paid leave to try and find their daughter. Seriously, even when they were in Portugal, they never asked for one penny.”
So why was the decision taken to pay two mortgage payments on their behalf and what procedure was followed for the taking of that decision?
10) Please could you confirm that the director that resigned on 31st May is Bates Wells & Braithwaite? (who still act as the Fund's Company Secretary?)
11) Who is responsible for taking the minutes of any meetings regarding the appointment of contractors of the Fund? Documentation from the Board of Directors no doubt exists about the appointment of M3, or any major expense made on behalf of the Fund. Votes or resolutions presumably have been passed within the Board of Directors to approve expenditure. Can you confirm this is the case? What mechanisms and tendering procedures have been put in place regarding the granting of such contracts? Is it possible to give a description of them?
12) Have declarations of conflict of interest been declared by each director?
13) Although Esther has resigned from the fund, is she still working for the Campaign in the capacity of a PR Person via her Company 'Making It'? Did she receive any payment for any kind of consultancy PR work while she was a Board Member and Fund Spokesperson?
14) Can you give firm confirmation that none of the costs involved in the independent forensic tests undertaken by Gerry and Kate McCanns' defence team were borne in any way by the Fund?
15) What is Madeleine's Fund: Leaving No Stone Unturned Ltd's position regarding VAT?
16) Paypal: Can you give details of how Paypal payments are processed which are received via the Find Madeleine website? It was alleged last summer that the paypal revenue was not being paid directly into the Fund’s bank account, but was filtered via a third party, a director of the web management company Infohost. Has this ever been the case? If so, why was this allowed to happen?
17) What were the reasons that Esther McVey and Philip Tomlinson resigned from the Board of Directors?
