Some 60,000 people, from shopping centre security guards to hotel workers, are being trained to respond to the threat of terrorism, Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said.

Her comments came two days ahead of the publication of a counter-terrorism strategy which ministers are billing as the most comprehensive approach to tackling the threat issued by any government in the world.

Nearly EX PM Gorfom Brown Observer today "We know that terrorists will keep on trying to strike and that protecting Britain against this threat remains our most important job."

Is the government using powerful, coercive means to directly control UK society through its 60,000 informants?
It very much looks like it. There's a very strong resemblance to what happened in Nazi Germany where an army, estimated to be of about 100,000, spies and informants operated throughout the country, reporting to Nazi officials the activities of any critics or dissenters.
To disguise the similarity all the government needs now is to arrange a few bombs to go off so we're all living in fear of 'terrorists' rather than our own government.

Funnily enough, my neighbour Dr Frick and I were discussing the Telegraph article at our Common Purpose meeting this weekend.
That and the PM's brilliant piece in the Observer.

Frick is very keen on "de-Chaving" society and getting people back to a more healthy lifestyle. He's hoping, the way things are going, to get funding for his project applying the latest developments in genetics to the behavioural sciences.

The idea of having workers trained to be watchful is excellent. Though in the hardships of the current recession it might be helpful to payroll people to do it, say at double the JSA rate.

If the Germans needed 100,000 informants for a pop of approx 40 million then today, the UK Govt needs 150,000.
That should put a dent in the accelerating unemployment figures.
As soon as the "New Neighbourhood Wardens" get the authority to issue ASBO's, I'll be applying for a job.

"Smith said she mistakenly submitted an expenses claim which included five pay-per-view films, including two adult movies which were viewed at her family home in her Redditch constituency."...
