TOUGH safeguards aimed at stopping political activists "stealing" postal votes were scrapped after pressure from the Labour Party and Tories, Scotland on Sunday reveals in a shocking report of the ease with which the system can be misused….quite legally!
A code of conduct drawn up by the Electoral Commission banned party workers from handling ballot papers or acting as witnesses, but this was abandoned following objections from Labour and the Tories. The revelation comes as the first of an estimated 6.5 million postal ballots begin landing on doorsteps this weekend.
