"Turkish" Northern Cyprus to adopt the Eurozone ?
Turkish Cyprus European Union Association Chairman Ali Erel says there is no obstacle for "Turkish" Cyprus to employ the EU currency, Euros (€), in the "Turkish" northern region which is illegally occupied .
Evaluating the recent depreciation of the Turkish liras, Erel said that it would be wiser to use Euros as the official currency instead of Turkish liras.
"Depreciation of Turkish liras would lead to an additional €50 million budget deficit in Turkish Cyprus," Erel added.
It would of course only make money laundering through the casinos in the "Turkish" North a great deal easier than it already is. Kim Jong Il's North Korean paradise and the Vatican State also use the Euro .
The FT report today that Serbia's former justice minister accused Greek Cypriot authorities yesterday of complicity in the illegal transfer of billions of dollars to Cyprus during the 1990s United Nations embargo against Yugoslavia.
Vladan Batic told a Nicosia court the Yugoslav government had arranged for "sacks and suitcases full of cash" to be flown from Belgrade to Nicosia and deposited in accounts of "front" companies held by Cyprus Popular Bank, now known as Laiki Bank.
